Clip creation and customizaton

How do I create a clip?

Make sure you’re logged in before you begin.

There are two ways to create a clip:

  • Create a clip from scratch
  • Copy and customize an existing public clip

Create a clip from scratch

You can create a new clip from the Create menu or from your library.

From the Create menu

  1. Go to Create in the top navigation.
  2. Select Create a clip.

From your library

  1. Click your avatar or profile photo in the top navigation.
  2. Select My library.
  3. Select the My clips tab.
  4. Click New clip.

Copy and customize an existing clip

If you find a public clip you’d like to use as a starting point, you can make your own copy and customize it.

  1. Click Copy & Customize on any public clip card or clip preview page.
  2. A copy of the clip will be added to your library.
  3. In the modal that appears, choose Edit copy to customize it right away, or I’ll customize later to edit it later from your library. If you choose I’ll customize later, you can find the clip by going to My library → My clips and clicking Edit on the clip card.

Edit your clip

Once you’re in the clip editor:

Add a title. Give your clip a descriptive title.

Add your content. Enter your content in the text editor. You can also optionally add one image, one video, or one piece of audio.

Add tags. Tags can help you and others find the clip later.

Add a source. If your clip includes content created by someone else, add a source to give credit to the original creator.

Choose your visibility. Open the Visibility dropdown and choose one of the following:

  • Public — Your clip is visible to the Recustom community. Public clips are sent to Recustom’s content moderator for approval before they appear in the public library. If there is a delay in publishing your clip, feel free to contact us to request an expedited review. (Important note: To share your clip using the site’s Share feature (i.e. sharing the direct link) the clip must be set to Public. Content moderator approval is not required for your clip to be accessible via a private link.)
  • Private — Your clip is visible only to you. (Important note: To share your clip using the site’s Share feature (i.e. sharing the direct link) the clip must be set to Public.)
  • Draft — Your clip is saved as a work in progress and is visible only to you.

Your clip is automatically saved

There’s no need to manually save your work. Recustom uses Autosave, so your changes are saved automatically as you edit.

When you’re finished, click Exit to leave the clip editor. Your clip will be saved to your account and can be accessed anytime from My library → My clips.

Why can’t I edit certain clips?

You can only directly edit clips you created or copies of clips that have been added to your library.

If a clip was created by someone else, you can’t change their original clip. However, you can often click Copy & Customize to make your own copy and adapt it for your needs.
